July 13, 2023 - Officer John Dubois
Officer John Dubois joined the Savannah Police Department in November and is currently an officer in the Northwest Precinct.
With only months on the department, Officer Dubois has already been highlighted among his peers for his actions. They described him as having a calm and easygoing demeanor that has assisted in comforting members of the community and quickly de-escalating situations.
In April, Officer Dubois responded to a suicidal subject. Upon his arrival, he realized that the woman in crisis suffered from several mental health disorders. While trying to talk her into getting professional help, she grabbed a knife and cut herself. Officer Dubois stayed calm and was able to get the knife away from her. Through continued communication, he was able to convince her to go with EMS and get the help she needed. Her father, who was there throughout the incident, praised Officer Dubois for his patience, understanding and compassion in a crisis.
